I think jq's data methods allow you to store any type of object. So in the example above, '60' would be stored as a Number and not a String. When you extract it, you would get the Number and this helps if you want to do any math on the value.
Since you can't really set element attributes to non-string values, trying to sync the 'data' values with element attributes raises all sorts of unwanted problems.
Qasar's story is amazing and inspirational. Was he able to convey his story in his application to YC and is that the reason you selected him in? Or did someone at YC already know him to be able to truly appreciate his achievement?
I have always found the YC application strange in that sense. So much emphasis is given to the question of the "most impressive achievement", but in order to convey any achievement with context, one needs to be quite verbose with their replies. Given that an application only has few seconds to impress, conveying anything is a challenge. Has YC given much thought to an essay type application?
I am proud of where I am today. I grew up in Mumbai, India (not quite a village). We weren't rich. I still have scars on my right foot from an abscess caused from a piece of glass that had pierced my foot while playing soccer bare feet on concrete. We couldn't afford shoes. Luckily my father's business started picking up around the time I entered engineering school. The plan was for me to graduate with a bachelor's in structural engineering and then we could work together to grow the business further. At 20, I earned my bachelor's in structural engineering. Unfortunately my father had died in an accident at work when I was in my penultimate year of engineering. I managed to get enough resources together to be able to attend grad school in the US. I met my wife there. BTW, she has an amazing story too. We now have a startup (https://magtag.me) that received angel investment recently. We feel like outsiders in the tech scene but our spirits are high and when we look back at our lives we feel nothing but pride.

Can some of the risk be mitigated by sending the user an email to confirm the connection? If the user has a verified email address on file before the connection is attempted, the facebook profile information (in this case the information of the attacker) could be sent to them asking them to confirm the connection.
While this format may not work for everyone, for a UI person, I think this is an awesome way to apply. Great Job!
How difficult would it be for you to allow printing in a resume format (hidden div with info, activated using the CSS print layout option???) At least then there is the option of printing your resume from this page directly. You might even be able to provide a link in the corner of the page to activate printing. Just an idea. Good Luck!

There is an additional "you" in this sentence. Just to clarify, I am not trying to offend anyone here, just trying to help. I think landing pages are important.

As hackers we get trained to look at details. So I was hoping others on "Hacker News" would understand where I was coming from. It's not about right or wrong. It's not about ego. I just thought I could help.
I think the best way to handle this would be to remove the scheme from the background url. So it would look like `background: "url(//www.google.com/s2...")`. This would accommodate both schemes.
"imagine you woke up tomorrow and there was no google". So you mean there would be no analytics (something gizmodo probably uses), no gmail, no google docs, no code.google.com and on top of it I would have to use Bing! That seems like apocalypse to me.
Having a single privacy policy is not that bad. Surely, we need to be wary of google overreaching, but the world is still better off with google than without it.

Maybe not the most clear sentence since it leaves out the equity part; it's conveying that it provides seed money plus mentorship/networking in exchange for a modest equity from the startup.
Could be better organized as:
"... Y Combinator, the investment firm that plugs seed money (~$18,800) into early stage startups and offers mentorship and access to its ever-growing network of alumni, in exchange for a modest equity (~7%) of the startup."
