I feel like can also compare the difference to some rougelikes where the combos of random things can yield vastly different experiences but in NMS the randomness felt more like a skin - not affecting gameplay much.

DF is a great comparison, because it speaks to the composability of properties and systems as a key requirement.

2,000+ variants that still funnel through one predesigned interaction system is not variety.

The variants need to actually compose with each other into meaningfully unique experiences / systems for the player, which is much harder to align.

Just curious, the heating to remove the VRM is that permanent so you can only check the authenticity once?

Yes, you are right, once the VRM is erased it is gone for good.

Though it is possible to test only a fragment of an object, but I do not know if the instruments that were used were sensitive enough to work with only a very small chip, which could be glued back, afterwards.

Many such ancient pottery objects are already broken, so they must be glued anyway, if a restoration is desired.

It strikes me as risky, if the item is in any way delicate or has absorbed water at all. But I'm no ceramics expert!

What happened to version 4? Looks like last release was 3.6.7.

Possibly to avoid conflicts with Nethack4[0], which was a fork of the Nethack 3.x series back when development was stalled. I think the guy behind it later joined the main Nethack dev team.

There is a variant named NetHack 4, they might want to avoid confusion with it.

Nethack 3.11 for Workgroups was right there ;)

I guess properly is important there, in reality certain initial orderings are more common and we use certain techniques for shuffling with our hands making it less random than "properly".

I assume you refer to https://github.com/torbiak/git-autofixup. I have also used it, and its ok but not perfect.

I use git autofixup; it was much better than git absorb last time I checked

> it doesn’t say anything when there was no match

that's what it should do

> it can be quite slow as things grown

How? All the slowness (on large repos) I've seen has been fixed.

> that's what it should do

No it is not.

> How?

I don’t know, that’s just an observation from using it, semi regularly I autofixup changes and it takes a while to do anything.

you're probably using an old version

You can see in the repository that it was benchmarked against oneTBB.

That was my first thought as well, "The camera will be used to take photographs" seem pointless, if it's a camera app it's obvious if it's not it does not help the reviewer.

I don't think you can date the axe-heads from the material? I assume they date based on objects found nearby and the technique used to make them. Which is also why knowing the exact location is important.

Recent is relative, the latest comment is from April 2024, not something that popped up today.
