More firepower for the gamers to move to Linux.

Steam will trigger a further exodus with their Steam Box once folks realize they have none of the constraints and a great experience.

Steam box will be too expensive for mass adoption. Sure it will sell ok but it’s going to be priced like an equivalent gaming PC, not like a console.

The folks that game on steam already have their gaming PC. The reason the steam deck sold was portability. People buying the steam box are those with above average incomes to afford two gaming PCs or those that are valve supporters.

Steam box won’t make it suddenly the year of Linux

If it costs the same as a gaming pc, people will certainly consider it for a gaming pc. The big thing, though, is that it’ll legitimize Linux as a gaming option for desktops.

As much as i love using linux i just kinda dont see it tbh.

especially since many have a fear of linux for some reason (I would guess just the fear of the unknown?). So often i have seen people get scared and tense up and just that alone makes them spiral into a loop.

I do hope you are right tho.

Early EverQuest required groups to progress because trash mobs were hard, the environment was vast, dungeons had traps, there was no auction house and players hung out in tunnels shouting their wares.

26 years later, the nostalgia hits me every so often and I spin up Project Quarm or Project 1999 where it still plays the same, and it’s fun for awhile but I’m not enjoying it as much as I enjoyed the memories.

I enjoy the luxuries afforded by modern games, with three kids and a busy job, I wonder how anyone found the time to play as long as EverQuest required.

The Luclin bazaar from EQ is still one of the coolest/most unique game features I have ever seen. Park your character to open up a shop with selected items from your inventory. Browse everybody's wares by walking around and clicking them to see their shops!

It was still great, pointless city but within the main hub. Lineage2 would allow players to sit in any towns in a similar way.

Oh man those tunnels. I remember a tunnel scam where a seller would close the trade window and quickly reopen it with a lesser item that used the same icon. Not sure if the GMs did anything about it but I always made sure to carefully inspect the item I was buying.

I have used Wipr for years, and now Wipr 2. Worth the small amount to keep intrusive ads, and it is cross platform.

One of the better install and forget it content blocker. The cherry on the top of the cake is that the developer is pretty responsive too.

Yeah Wiper 2 works really well but it slows down my iPhone 12 considerably. I guess there’s not enough ram for all these filters. Still faster than AdGuard.

Seconded. Small one-time license fee per major version.

The whole point of an internship isn’t to get low cost work. It’s part recruiting and part teaching students about working in the real world vs. in educational environments.

I think companies will take advantage of AI in the future to create efficiencies with the existing workforce and free up their time to solve other problems that AI cannot solve such as user research, reasoned architectures, etc.

Can you provide data on the trends so I know where to position my recruiting efforts when internships are “no longer viable?”

There is ‘winget’ which is an attempt to make installing software easier. It is native with recent versions of Windows 11.

I use Wipr both on IOS and MacOS and it’s been great.
