I think it's ridiculous to write that much without realizing the most obvious thing that happened, that France had its birth rate drop first and very quickly, meaning that they lost their demographic advantage against the rest of Europe.
Actually, I think there is a misunderstanding about the dangerousness of non stick pans.
PTFE (the actual pan coating) is a PFAS, but is not known to be a health hazard. It is environmentally challenging, as it does not decompose, but when people think of the toxicity, they think of the other PFAS that are needed to synthesize PTFE that often end up in the environment and get trapped in small quantities under the PTFE coatings of the pan sometimes (or used to) which can bioaccumulate and be toxic once ingested (which can happen if you damage the coating); or they think of the PFAS fumes that get released when overheating pans (they cannot bioaccumulate but are toxic enough that they can make you dizzy and kill pets). Supposedly, PTFE could also be manufactured differently in a safe way (probably still not environmentally friendly but at least non toxic), but figuring that out is hard especially given the economic stakes (some companies will claim without proof it is, other will try to dismiss it if it happens).
It's hard to find unbiased information about PFAS, both industries selling PFAs and selling alternatives are fighting hard on the Internet.
My experience with OCaml has transformed how I think about programming and complex system design. This may also be true if you learn any other functional programming language, but OCaml is easy and flexible which makes it good imo as a door towards the more formal part of comp sci. Even for steering an LLM I think this might help.
My experience with lisp was exactly that: it completely changed how I think about programming, but much more, how I think about systems and engineering. (I learned it through SICP)
You seem to cite tangled a lot, and logically, I am wondering if you have any plan to also federalize on top of the AT protocol, so accounts could interact across the site boundary and also allow self hosting but still benefiting from pushin network? It may be hard in terms of design so I understand if you say you won't.
Yes! I’d love to provide private or at least personal firehoses to users maybe based on the same lexicons as Tangled uses so that you can sync your Pushin repo to your own Tangled knot. That’d be cool, no? Also, sign-in with your atmosphere account, and generally offering lexicon-based API output to make it easy to sync to Tangled or somewhere else
Oh, so it requires an app, which isn't even available on older iOS versions… that's such a shame, I wanted to try it out on my iOS 17.0 iPhone. (and I thought it was just using the official Apple ways used for macs, so that's a small disappointment)
A half of Twitter's point for me was the trending section, that you don't have any control on now (you used to be able to disable the personalization of that section but since X you cannot, if you want the actual trends you need to go in a subsection). The whole section is full personalized ragebaits (because at some point I used to reply to those), now it just makes the experience of trends quite unbearable and I can't change that.
Even if you tried to ignore ragebait the X algorithm is going to prioritize them because it is highly tuned to promote high engagement content. Any given feed is going to have white supremacy, flat Earth, climate change denial, immigrant hate, vaccine harms, and of course Elon shilling for his AI products.
