Thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware of that blog post. That said, their approach sounds kind of disheartening. I love being able to use extensions within my PWAs (primarily uBlock Origin, obviously), and some Android Chrome forks (Kiwi/Mises) let me do this, while still letting me feel like I'm in a dedicated app (i.e. no browser chrome at all). The firefox team really seem to stress here that they want to keep the chrome around the app (albeit different), which really feels like it goes against the grain of what I expect a PWA to be in the first place (a chromeless website).
I know this is rhetorical but yeah; retention games. I’m guessing that many of these places do weigh the brand reputation hit of doing stuff like this but just don’t think it’s that important or valuable. I do. I don’t support companies that play these games, which makes it extra upsetting that I literally do not have a competitive choice vs Comcast for home internet. I can get 768K DSL through ATT, or 1300/45 from Comcast. They’re about the same price. No FTTH, no Sonic, wireless options are under 50mbit down, etc.
Where do you see a Pro plan? Their pricing[0] lists a 10 documents limit for the free Individual plan and unlimited for the paid plans Team and Enterprise.
Their pricing-site is just broken. You get the 10 Documents for teams on mobile or when you shrink the window on desktop small enough to force the side into a vertical(?) view of the blocks.
Going from the oldest UI elements Win11 currently has, IIRC it something from Win2k, all the way up to React Native, Windows is becoming a living museum of UI.
It is hard, but Microsoft has the workforce and knowledge to do it. Yet they are not comitted to it, one reason being compatibility. There are businesses today relying on 10+ year old custom solutions developed for XP.
