If a technology, backdoor or capability exists, it's not a question of if it will be abused, but rather when, how, and by whom.

Stop being obtuse.

Technophobic take tbh

Tell that to the millions of Hasidic Jews in the United States who do not believe that a Jewish nation should exist at all.

Thanks for this information, I'd like to offer something in return.

Only certain Hasidic groups oppose Israel, including Satmar Hasidim (over 100k followers), and Neturei Karta (fringe, only about 1k supporters). That's less than millions, and a minority within the Hasidic world.

Theologically, they oppose it based on an interpretation a Talmudic passage saying that establishment of Israel has to happen after the coming of the Messiah.

Additionally, there are a lot different denominations of Jews within Israel, some of whom have more pragmatic views. But a significant, politically influential minority believes in their duty to govern all biblical land.

He said what he said.

Remember when he said he couldn't imagine raising a human child without AI?

Why are we still pretending this man is anything but a middle-distance gazing charlatan selling snake oil?

And anyone who is under sanction or lives in a nation under economic sanction, and wants access to a means of sending payments across borders that would otherwise be closed to them.

And anyone who lives in a polity whose local currency may be undergoing rapid devaluation/inflation.

And anyone who needs a form of wealth that no local authority is technically capable of alienating them from - ie: if you need to pack everything in a steamer trunk to escape being herded into cattle cars, you can memorize a seed phrase and no one can stop you from taking your wealth with you.

And any polity who may no longer wish to use dollars as the international lingua franca of trade, as the global foreign exchange reserve currency, to reduce the degree to which their forex reserves prop up American empire.

Sadly, all of these use cases appear increasingly relevant as time goes on.

ok - I am willing to be educated. Thank you.

You're welcome. Glad you found this helpful, truthfully. Rare enough for any signal to cut through the noise online, these days.

Want to have your mind blown again?

Vanilla beans are also fermented before use. They start green, before they are processed and ultimately fermented, giving rise to the delicious aroma and flavor we're all familiar with.

There are lots of proven bad ideas still being bandies about today, and it does not prove they are anything but enduringly worthless.

Nothing ever lives up to the hype, that's why it's called hype.

My feeling is that rather than a snuffing out, we are witnessing a passing of the torch of the light of progress.

Better start learning mandarin.

Science works better with collaboration. If China and Europe have to take up the slack from a self-inflicted wound to US research, science as a whole suffers. There is far more science to do than scientists and when science funding gets canceled the number of scientist decrease.

After the US canceled the SSC, Europe built the LHC. The LHC isn't a one for one replacement of the SSC, but it would probably not have been built if the SSC had been built. What scientific projects would Europe have built instead? What did we lose?

And the Internet also consists in large part of bots talking to bots. This is not to say that some people won't always promulgate the "Won't somebody please think of the children?" argument every time an expansion of the surveillance state apparatus is in question, but rather to say that we should not take for granted that every bad opinion we see online is one deeply held by any real people.
