Love the Temu variation. You can just use a ‘Chinese’ font and type roman text as well. Most of these fonts use a fixed width for Chinese glyphs, as wel as for the western characters, so i,l,f etc all have ‘extra’ white space around them, resulting in the ‘Temu’ effect, it is absolutely everywhere here in China.

Thanks, I always wondered why this was the case with latin text from CJK countries, as they use the same computers and software than the west, they should be able to do kerning right. I guess the original designers of those fonts are to blame for not making the latin characters "properly" monospace so that it still works.

Can give the designers some slack, drawing 5000+ gliphs is not an easy task.

The latin part of CJK fonts is often some crappy Times clone that they throw in as an afterthought.

Ah, so that's why. Do the big Chinese companies handle this well? Alibaba, perhaps? Huawei, surely? By owning the packaging and shipping?

I'd have to push back on that somewhat. When I worked there I saw all sorts of people emerging from the flats around the power station. Young familes, young professionals, none of them appeared "wealth obsessed".

In fact, looking at rents on RightMove, it's not out of whack with typical rents for a nice area of London.

Let us not forget this area of London (Nine Elms) was previously a pretty grotty industrial wasteland that you tended not to go to, and the power station itself was at risk of collapse.

I bought 32 and wished I got another 6 for the south west aspect of the house ... but still, producing 11mWh a year in the UK on an east/west aspect, electricity bill for the year (even with all cars in the household being EV's) is negative. Battery makes the difference - load shifting is doing the heavy lifting in the winter.
