I actually hope “product people” won’t be involved as long as possible. “Product people” is mostly a reason of our current state of enshitification of most of the products. I would actually try my best to gatekeep.

"Product people" have long been involved, it's called Ubuntu and SteamOS.

Do we think these companies aren't selling anything??

Ubuntu is a good example of why you don't let "product people" near the thing, Ubuntu is not even remotely the most noob appropriate distro but costs on marketting. As for SteamOS, Valve does many things which everybody else fails at, so they're not a good model for typical outcomes.

You really think it's product people pushing enshitification rather than the people who want to financialize every aspect of our lives?

Every product person I have worked with was just a SME in their domain, and pushed for a cohesive piece of software that solved their (users) needs.

I now want to create a public index of “slop” contributors. People need to know their “heroes”.

Installed and activated Windows 7 yesterday on the laptop I was preparing to sell. Surprised to learn something my brain offloaded long time ago. We had Apple Glass in 2008 on Windows!

My PC is unfortunately on Windows 11, but I recently purchased StartAllBack which lets you replace the start menu with a Windows 7-era sensible one, and you can even change the Start icon and various chrome in the OS (the task bar, file explorer, etc) to revert back to Windows 7 style. Maybe I'm just nostalgic but it's made Windows 11 so much better.

Are you telling me AI bros lying about their products? No way that ever happened…

Following your analogy, parrots should be considered human.

You still need to do the cooking yourself to master it. If that cook will be giving you a readymade dish, can you say you can cook? Although yes, that’s the goal for many…

Can automated solution eat all the books if enforcement is at doors threatening to break?

Mind me asking what do you use instead of MSVC?

Somewhat reluctantly, VS Code; but I'm checking out CLion as well and not hating it as much as I did last time.

I find CMake intensely offensive, just the whole worldview of every tool demanding you learn some DSL to do basic things when I have a 4K monitor and just want to select a bunch of cpp and h files to build, but I've since been forced to swallow this bitter pill for work reasons, and I guess it's time to give tools based on it another go.

Just wanted to say hello to my fellow metalheads. And thanks for the song recommendation!

Maybe one day, but after almost 15 years of using handful of git aliases I just can’t switch to anything else.
