I don't think this is suggested: highlight all uses of a field in a class, or a variable in a method. IntelliJ does this for the field/variable under the cursor, with a background colour and a margin colour. I'd like to see what it would be like with all variables in their individual colours.

There are plugins for various editors using that kind of highlighting scheme if you'd like to try it. Usually it is called "semantic highlighting".
