Why is NPR posting such silliness, and why is it being reposted here? Crypto is volatile, so yes, over short periods of time it will outperform the S&P 500. Investing in stocks gives you part ownership of businesses. Maybe the current price offered is too high, but there's definitely something there. The value of crypto is nebulous.

This article totally misses the point of investing in S&P 500. Hamster started trading in June. I'm sure there are hedge fund managers who can beat S&P500 in the short term. The point of S&P500 is a long term, relatively safe/cheap investment with returns of about 10%.
Hopefully, NPR does an update in a year and so on.
