What I really want to see from new e-ink is better contrast! Last I knew e-ink color although impressive at first glance had really poor black/white contrast... and that's kind of everything when reading. I'm glad they improved the sharpness though.
I'm still using my good old Kindle Voyage (bought it in 2014), although the battery is not as good as it used to be (with what I would consider intense use I have to charge it about once a week) it's still great. And god, the screen is magnificent. I bought a onyx poke 3 last year and... it was disappointing. Battery was not very good but most importantly the screen looked sort of washed out. You can get used to it if it's all you've ever known but it is not comparable to the Kindle Voyage, not by a large margin.
Finally, I have jailbroken my Voyage and installed Koreader in it. Amazing. I can transfer books wirelessly from calibre and it's really a joy. At some point I thought "when they release a color e ink i'll switch". But really, I don't think it's worth it. I'll keep using my voyage until it breaks (which I kind of hope never happens).
