The AT Protocol - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33252108 - Oct 2022 (99 comments)

I really have been scratching my head over what Jack Dorsey doesn't like about Mastodon. It's pretty much what he seems to want: a decentralized Twitter. The fact that he hasn't commented publicly about it seems to me that what he really wants is a "decentralized" Twitter...that he controls.

For context, Mastodon implements the ActivityPub protocol, the W3C derived protocol for interoperable social networks.

There are other systems that speak AP, including PixelFed, PeerTube, Write. As, Pleroma, and WordPress with a specific plugin.

Bluesky is funded by twitter. Twitter has no equity in the company.

I don’t see musk finding this post acquisition. Assuming the acquisition continues.

Why would we want this instead of Mastadon?

This one is endorsed by Bitcoin-lovin' beardos.

Mastodon is open source. I may be wrong but it looks like this platform is not. There's probably money involved somehow, which is why it is getting the Jack Dorsey bump.

this a good question, I'd like to know that too
