No matter what you are building, you are now competing with OpenAI (twitter.com/blader)

Am I the only one who feels great about how so many people have lost it and become completely distracted by a chatbot? There's an enormous opportunity for everyone who is building something and just doesn't care. In VC it feels like a generational opportunity to just stay the course and not do anything stupid, and as long as you're doing something actually useful you'll be way ahead of everyone who wasted all their time chasing chatbots. It's like crypto squared.

I don't agree with the tweet, but you are dismissing LLMs too easily.

It is not like crypto at all. It has had applications from day 1. All crypto enthusiasts could muster in years was that crypto can help avoid financial laws. ChatGPT on the other hand has been useful from first week, and for tons of use cases.

in all fairness to crypto, the government did keep moving the goal post on what's legal or not.

The banks fail and they get hauled in front of congress and yelled at. crypto currency fails and people are looking at jail time.

it's also hard to compete with the attention sucking economy of Web 2.0

How are the failures comparable.

FTX failed but not because of taking slightly bad risks, but because the founder kept treating money as his personal piggybank moving from FTX to Alameda freely. Using users funds for random personal projects. SBF was not doing innocent things.

I don't think SVB did anything comparable to the lunacy of Terra/Luna or FTX.

except its a chatbot that speaks:

html, css, javascript, SVG etc.

legal code, accounting, economics.

I’m not competing with OpenAI. OpenAI is competing with me.
