Ask HN: Are the Reddit / Twitter changes on the same day a coincidence?

Was just reflecting on Twitter closing access without login is happening on the same day that reddit is shutting down it's API. Seems a little odd they're happening at nearly the exact same time.

I know there are some external factors around scraping for AI training content but within one day of each other seems a little odd to me.

Probably just a coincidence but wondered if anyone else had guesses as to why. Some kind of regulatory reason? Twitter doing it at a time where there might be less attention because of the reddit changes?

Maybe I'm reading into it too much.

At most, it is Twitter hoping that Reddit drama takes the attention off its own actions. The Reddit API change was planned long in advance.

I don't think 1 month of notice is a "long" time in this context.

But "this context" is Twitter's policy and technical changes under Elon Musk.

We have seen twitter implement and revert broad policy changes within a few hours in this era. So I would agree that one month is long in this context :)
