Somewhat related to this is a conversation I was having last night. I was asserting that if you're just starting to learn a thing, the worst teacher you can have is someone who is an expert in that thing. (The best teacher you can have is someone who is an expert in the art of teaching.)

That's because experts tend to be so far removed from when they were beginners that they've internalized the really important, baseline introductory stuff and don't even think about it anymore. That means they're less likely to teach those things as they're "instinctive", or if they do enter the expert's consciousness, they seem too obvious to be worth mentioning.
