Tell HN: Don't Use Apple's Hide My Email to Create Anonymous Accounts

It's been more than 2 years since people started to realize that this "feature" doesn't actually work:

https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/qrr58d/hide_my_email_is_not_forwarding_any_emails/

It doesn't forward any emails to the email address you choose.

I have created Reddit and Tiktok accounts using Apple's Hide My Email and I can't remove them now because no verification email is forwarded to my actual email by Apple. Moreover, I can't setup 2FA on those accounts due to the same reason. Someone just tried to login to my Tiktok account and I guess I'm just supposed to sit here and see what they can do with my information because Apple won't deliver Tiktok's emails sent to my real email to setup 2FA.

How can't a +$2T company fix such a thing? It's embarrassing tbh.

Are you sure the address isn’t disabled? It is a feature. A “hide my” address can be set up on your account but disabled, meaning that you own that address but it will not forward the email to your mailbox. You can enable it at any time, at which point the emails sent to that address will be forwarded.

I’ve used this feature many times and never had any problems.

I haven't had it fail once, and I've created many addresses. I do have a custom domain hooked up to my iCloud account, if that is making any difference, I don't know.

Nothing more embarrassing than someone who has a tiktok account.
