Stack ranking doesn't always ensure bottom performers go(If there is lot of politics in the org and managers like their pet employees).

But almost always ensures erosion of team work, and attrition of some good people.

Its great when executed well, horrible if you even get it slightly wrong.

Agree that it doesn't always work. I am yet to see a viable alternative that works in large organizations. If you know of something different I am all ears.
