Except that you could use that money for everything you wanted. So many (most?) people simply saved it and viewed it as part of their regular salary.
The new thing here is that you MUST spend the money for something fun. So it is more than just money. Its like a free lunch. They always taste better than the ones I have to pay for ;)
It sounds like they'd be fine with you "hanging on the couch, eating Taco Bell and watching bad cable all week" rather than spending the money on a fancy vacation.
