In high school I used an extension to do this, but I didn't find I was retaining much. With regular text you're basically doing the same thing, but can stop and change speed at will.

Still, I could keep up fairly well until I hit a number. When I saw a number, I guess I'd switch into "number mode" and I'd miss the next bunch of words.
