Is it just me or is anyone else saddened when data like this is accumulated in a non-shareable manner?
We have the capabilities to crowdsource and replicate IMDB with free data, but the continued existence of IMDB removes the impetus. Now the same will happen with concert history.
Given the explosion of creativity unleashed by open source software I'm disappointed whenever we're not building the same for data.
Tragedy of the commons. Wikipedia won because it did a better job than proprietary encyclopedias, but with a finite category like movies (IMDB) or concerts, it's hard to do better than complete. Something bigger like the sum of all human knowledge is harder to do a good job of.
Great work guys, the new site is really cool! Even if it is quite sluggish and throwing 503s at the moment ;)
If I've learned anything the past year its user generated content + social stickiness = winner. We're going to try moving a little bit in that direction ourselves (though hardly to IMDB levels ;), SEO-friendly content is just too powerful to not have these days it seems.
